About Solent Music School

Founded in 2013, Solent Music School has quickly become the most sought after institution for peripatetic instrumental lessons in Portsmouth, Fareham, Cosham and the surrounding areas.  

Director, Jack Davies, wanted to approach instrumental lessons with two main principles in mind: 

1. The lessons must be fun and enjoyable. 

2. The lessons must be individually tailored to each student, so that they are suitably challenged but do not become overwhelmed. 

From this starting point, he developed a flexible and challenging curriculum that will meet the individual learning needs of any child/adult wishing to learn a musical instrument. Jack quickly built up a large cohort of students, mostly through word of mouth, and in 2014 set out to expand Solent Music School by taking on like minded teachers. 

Each teacher is rigorously interviewed and auditioned by Jack and current students. To ensure our students receive the best possible tuition, we meet regularly to discuss new techniques, repertoire and fun games we have discovered. This team effort really sets us apart from the competition, and the students love being introduced to new material and activities on a regular basis.

Our students get the opportunity to perform every term at our recitals. This is an excellent opportunity for them to show what they've been learning to family and friends, build their confidence on stage, and meet likeminded people. We also encourage duet partnerships and  group performances classes. Learning an instrument can so easily become a solitary activity, and in turn, easy to loose motivation for. 

By creating lots of opportunities for the student to share their work, we enjoy teaching motivated, confident and happy students! We currently provide piano lessons, singing lessons, violin lessons and music theory lessons, to students in the Fareham, Cosham, Portsmouth, and Waterlooville areas. We teach adults, children from age 5, and all levels of playing are welcome. 

We have pupils regularly achieving distinctions in their music exams, and we boast a 100% pass rate for all exams from grades 1 to 8. Students enjoy studying Classical, Jazz, Pop and Music Theory.
